January 6, 2020- In the movie finding Nemo, there is a phrase said , “Just keep swimming”.  That is exactly what the Mustangs Boys and Girls Swim and Dive teams did on Saturday January 4th at the Busby Natatorium on the campus of Cleveland State University to propel them to a history making day and first place finishes in the Greater Cleveland Conference Meet.  The boys and girls Swim and Dive teams have both not won the conference meet since the 2005-2006 season when the Mustangs were a member of the Pioneer Conference. This also marks the first time in conference history that a school has won both the Boys and Girls meet.

The Boys team was able to overcome a 50 point deficit (To Solon) after the Diving competition to roar back and take the GCC crown by 2 points.  The boys team, which has no senior swimmers (everyone is back next year) and only one senior diver, haven’t lost this season.

On the girls side, it was the same story.  After the prelims, the Lady Mustangs held a comfortable margin and Junior Diver Maggie Micko, added to that by finishing 4th in the diving competitions.  The girls team has only lost one meet on the season and continue to impress all competitions and spectators.  “The coaching staff’s approach to the athletes and the strategy used in the relay portion of the Finals proved to be the real key to the meet,” said Strongsville High School Athletic Director Denny Ziegler. “The passion, energy and commitment to swimming and becoming the best versions of themselves has shown in their competitions,” added Ziegler.  Coach Stacy commented,” When we have high energy the swimmers do really well.  I even told them a couple weeks ago when we weren’t swimming well, that we have to bring high energy to help propel others as that is something we can control and I feel the energy at the meet Saturday was outstanding and really helped us to the 1st place finishes”.

The swim dive team is back in action at home on Wednesday January 8th.  This will be a 6:30 start and not a 7pm start.

Congratulations to the Boys and Girls Swim and Dive Teams on a fantastic start to the year so far!
