The Strongsville Mustangs Boys Basketball team was looking to run their win streak to 3 games on Tuesday night when they traveled to Medina. Medina, the perennial pick to compete for the GCC title, was looking to keep pace in the GCC with Mentor. The Mustangs, who were short-handed, did everything they could to keep pace with Medina and try to knock off one of the top teams in the area. The Mustangs trailed by 1 after the 1st quarter and maintained that pace through the half as they trailed 39-35 at the break. The Mustangs defensive scheme was able to pull the team within 3 after 3 quarters of play. Justin Wypasek, who led the team in scoring, was able to tally 5 straight points for the Mustangs, who with 6:49 left in regulation were tied with the Bees 57-57. The Mustangs had some costly turnovers late and saw Medina go up by as many as 12 points with a little under 3 minutes to play. The Mustangs kept clawing and fighting to pull within 5 late, but unfortunately, they just ran out of time in a 79-72 defeat. The Mustangs fall to 5-4 on the year and remain winless in the GCC. The team will be back in action this weekend when they host Open Door on Friday and follow that with an afternoon contest on Saturday vs Fairview.
