Strongsville Mustangs (6-4) hosted the Bay Village Rockets (8-4) at Pat Catan stadium. The boys were coming off a tough loss just two days earlier, needing an emotional lift and they got it Thursday night. In the first quarter, Zach Massa, Brenden Spooner, Andrew Keating, and Adam Dubsky threw in six goals and defensively the Mustangs held the Rockets scoreless. The Rockets outscored the Mustangs 3-2 in the second quarter to make it 8-3 going into halftime.
The Mustang offense continued to hit the back of the net in the second half; Zach Massa, Jony Major, Owen McArdle, and Thomas Powers all scored goals. Thanks to great passing from Connor Dentkos, Adam Dubsky, Ben Giera, and Zach Massa, Brenden Spooner, 7 of the 14 goals scored came from an assist.
Defensively, the Mustangs limited to Rockets to only one goal in the second half. Defensive mid-fielder Zach Zoul and the long poles Ethan Dewes, Cooper Hawk, Josh Jellinek, Ryan Seefeldt, and Richie Roskoph made it difficult for the Rockets all night. That crew caused five turnovers, grabbed 17 groundballs, and limited the Rockets to just 18 shots; only seven on goal. Patrick Grealis saved 43%. Final score 14-4. Strongsville moves to 3-1 all-time versus Bay Village.
Saturday, April 20th, the Mustangs take on the North Canton Hoover Vikings. Last year the Mustangs lost to the Vikings 5-16. All time the Strongsville is 0-1 versus North Canton Hoover.
