Strongsville tennis beat nonconference opponent North Royalton 4-1 in warm but windy conditions at Memorial Park Tuesday afternoon. Brooke Brengartner picked up the first point of the match for Strongsville with a quick 6-1, 6-1 victory at first singles. Gabby Spehar followed with a victory of her own at third singles 6-2, 7-5. The Mustangs clinched the match as Steph Gaidos and Vic Matelski picked up the third team point of the day with a 6-3, 6-2 win at first doubles. Both Manaar Muhammad (second singles) and Bhavya Anoop and Raina Sinha (second doubles) dropped the first set before both forced a third set. Down 2-5, Anoop and Sinha brought the score back to 4-5 where they fought off five North Royalton match points before tying the set at 5-5 en route to a 7-5 victory. Muhammad fought back from a 1-4 third set deficit but but unable to clinch the match in a hard fought match that lasted over two hours. With the win the Mustangs improve to 4-6 on the season. They return to the courts at home Thursday versus Midview.
